DIE VARIETIES

Mar #1 - The Reverse shows extremely thickened and misshapen lettering due to Die Deterioration Doubling, particularly on the word "ACHIEVEMENT" and date. A significant Die break on the inside bottom of the last "0" of "2000". Several large dots, due to pitting of the Die occur around the date. Small die cracks extend from the points of the leaf into the field. The obverse exhibits a detached thistle on the right side of the crown on the Obverse, leaf on left side is faint also. Resurfaced "Arnprior type" Die. There is a large dot between the thistle and the flower. Unusual small die crack that becomes a small break, extending from the top right of the Maltese cross in the crown. *Estimated value -$8.00*

Mar #2 - The Reverse shows slightly thickened and misshapen lettering due to Die Deterioration Doubling, particularly on the word "ACHIEVEMENT" and date. There is a large dot, due to a pitted die below the "M" of the word "ACHIEVEMENT". (Die #1 also has a small dot in that area, but it is spaced from the "M" a little differently. Small die cracks extend from most of the points of the leaf into the field, similar to Die #1, but this is clearly a different die pair. The Obverse die appears worn -but problem free. *Estimated value -$4.00*

Mar #3 - The Reverse shows small die cracks extending from most of the points of the leaf into the field, similar to Die #1 & #2, but this is clearly a different die pair. The Obverse shows very unusual short and deep die breaks extending from 3 locations off the top of the crown and several of the letters. In particular the "I" in REGINA. *Estimated value -$4.00*

Mar #4 - The Reverse shows small die cracks extending from 3 points of the leaf into the field, similar to Die #1, #2, & # 3 -but this is clearly a different die pair indicting a weakness point inherent in the design of the reverse die. The Obverse die cracks extending from 2 locations off the top of the crown and several of the letters, the "I" in REGINA does not appear affected. Similar to #3 but clearly a different die. *Estimated value -$3.00*

This may be clear evidence of the relationship in the design of the reverse and design of the obverse dies affecting the way these dies will deteriorate when paired. What I am saying is that the design of a reverse die will affect how an obverse die will deteriorate, while at the same time, characteristics of the Obverse design will affect how a reverse die will deteriorate.

Mar #5 - The Reverse shows small die cracks extending from 3 different points of the leaf into the field, similar to Die #1, #2, # 3, & #4 -but this is clearly a different die pair indicting a weakness point inherent in the design of the reverse die. The Obverse shows Unusual small die crack that becomes a small break, extending from the top right of the Maltese cross in the crown similar to die #1 but different. A small die crack that extends from the top left of the Maltese cross into the fields. Beads centering from 5:00 o’clock on the Obverse have small die cracks extending to the rim. *Estimated value -$3.00*

Mar #6 - A "Dot" appears to adjoined to the bottom of the right side of the second "0" of the date "2000". A die marker in this case. The Reverse shows small die cracks extending from 7 different points of the leaf into the field, similar to Die #1, #2, # 3, #4 & #5 -but this is clearly a different die pair indicting a weakness point inherent in the design of the reverse die. Beads centering from 5:00 o’clock on the Obverse have small die cracks extending to the rim. This Obverse is clearly different than #5, as the die cracks that extend from the top of the Maltese cross in the crown are quite different. *Estimated value -$3.00*

Mar #7 - A two coin progression set.
Mar #7A - On the Obverse, between the thistle and the flower, it appears that a large round portion of the Dies Plating peeled and formed what appears to look like a second "Flower". - Yves Galipeau *Estimated value -$6.00*
Mar #7B - The large area as mentioned in #7A, deepens and the rest of the Obverse shows misshapen lettering due to Die Deterioration. - Peter Marzitelli *Estimated value -$8.00*
