DIE VARIETIES

Sep #1 - Die Plating on the top left side of the Maltese cross in the Queen’s crown, appears torn on the Obverse. Die Cracks are evident on the points of the crown that extend into the fields. Reverse appears problem free. *Estimated value -$2.00*

Sep #2 - Reverse shows slightly misshapen Lettering in the word "CANADA" due to Die Deterioration. Floating Thistle type Obverse, due to Die Polishing and Replating that resulted in the Die losing some of its finer details. Other than that, Obverse is problem free. *Estimated value -$2.00*

Sep #3 - Very extreme Die Deterioration on the Obverse. Beads are most affected at 5 o’clock. Lettering exhibits many plating flaws and Cracks, due to Die Deterioration. The Reverse is problem free, except for a small area of the fields, around the 5:00 o’clock position. In this area the Plating of the Die was stressed (Cracking).

Sep #4 - Collar Clash marks are evident on the rim of the Reverse around 11:00 O’clock. The Obverse appears to be quite fresh. However - It seems the fields are somewhat uneven. *Estimated value -$5.00*

I have seen this in the past on other coins listed in this project, but I thought this was maybe an illusion created by lighting. In comparing the fields of these coins and the fields of Sep #5 (for example), there is quite clearly a difference, perhaps due to uneven (and unusual) Die fatigue of the fields. This area needs a bit more research. It seems that in some cases, depending on the design it bears, Dies may be less convex than is what is "normal". There is also a bit of evidence from this project that implies that some modern Dies are even slightly concave.

Sep #5 - Plugged Crown type Obverse, due to a Chipped Die. A Small Die Crack appears from the base of the "N" of the word "CANADA" on the Reverse. *Estimated value -$5.00*

Struck through Grease Reverse. *Estimated value -$15.00*

Struck on a core intended for a Two Dollar coin.
